ART SHOW - WATERCOLOR SOCIETY OF INDIANA

Once again, since I had not attended the show opening, I grabbed a couple friends and we drove up to Indianapolis to see the Watercolor Society of Indiana show.  Each year the show is held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

This is a small show but a lovely facility, easily accessed, free parking, restaurant - all the perks!

These two ladies are both in TWSA - and you can see why!  Cheryl Lowe's painting "The Last Blast" (left) won an award.  Anna Roberts' painting"Up, Up and Away" (right).

I just liked these next two - "Berry Buzzy" and "The Union Preserved" which won an award.

Then there was mine (again, no award!)

After viewing the show and stopping in the gift shop which is directly opposite this gallery, we headed to the restaurant for lunch.  They have really good food here, just so you know - in case you, too, would like to join friends for an "Art Day".

Here was our view while we ate:

Time to head home and, although I've made this trip multiple times with no problems, apparently I cannot talk and drive at the same time since I accidentally took the ramp to Dayton!  Oops!  However, once again, 2 GPS found our way back to I-74 with a lovely tour of Post Road!  (This is a detour I won't live down any time soon since I had proudly announced on our way up that I would not be needing the services of a map . . . . )

Oh well - more laughter, a beautiful day, good friends, good food and Art - what more can we ask for!

The show runs until December 3, 2016.

ART SHOW - OHIO WATERCOLOR SOCIETY

The Riffe Gallery in Columbus, Ohio is sponsoring the Ohio Watercolor Society show.  The gallery is located downtown on High Street, directly opposite the State House.  The show will run until January 7, 2017.

Since I didn't attend the opening and banquet, a few friends drove up with me last week to see the show.  Between printed maps and 2 Smartphone GPS, we managed to find the gallery!  In these situations I am "just the driver".  They point me in the proper direction and I get them there, more or less intact!   After searching for a parking lot or garage (which didn't work out) it was time to locate a parking slot on the street, somewhat close to the gallery.  In order to accommodate 4 people, I drove my husband's car and - just to prove I CAN PARALLEL PARK (even in a car I rarely drive which is bigger than mine) -  I took this photo to show my husband and decided to let you all take a gander too!  LOL

Anyway . . . back to the show . . . .

First up is a photo of my friend, Tom's, outstanding painting "Where's Your Child?" for which he won an award.

Next is an amazing painting, but it's more than that.  This woman somehow paints and QUILTS her paintings!  They are amazing, and she seems to win an award each year, as her painting "Earth Song Quilt 7" did this year.

I took a photo of my painting hanging on the wall, but it doesn't show well since it's rather pale.  No award for me, though.  But at least it made it into the show and it will be in the traveling show.

After viewing the show it was back to the car to load it up with coins so we could find a restaurant for lunch.  Much talk and laughter ensured, and then it was back to the car for the long and boring ride back home.- and I didn't miss the very odd little ramp onto I-70/I-270 that they have hidden right next to a proper right turn onto the wrong street . . . . .

Time to plan our next Art Adventure!

WATERCOLOR SOCIETY OF INDIANA SHOW

My painting at the entrance to the show.
I had missed the opening of this show, and even though I had received the show catalog, I was anxious to see it in person.

After we left Carmel we drove to the Indianapolis Museum of Art and had lunch in their cafeteria.  If you are in the area I highly recommend the "Monet Salad"!  We sat in the area overlooking the outside fountain - it was a beautiful blue sky day.

Once we were "fed and watered" we strolled over to the show.  I had heard my painting was hung in a good spot, and I have to agree!

There were several people coming and going while we looked around at the paintings, which made me happy.

If you go to the Museum, the gallery is on the first floor opposite the gift shop so you cannot miss it!

CARMEL GALLERY - HOOSIER SALON

On Thursday a friend and I drove up to Indy to see both the show at the Hoosier Salon Carmel Gallery and the Watercolor Society of Indiana show at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

I got a few more photos of the Carmel show which I'm putting up here - they are a little better since I could take more time and the room was (sadly) empty.

Each artist had one painting featured in the front window of the gallery.  No matter where I stood, there was glare or shadow - but it was better than the night of the opening when I wasn't able to get any outside photo.

I took photos again of the walls - in order from the front of the room to the back, then back to front on the other side.  They are a little better than the previous photos so you can get a better look at some of the paintings.

Then it was on to the WSI show at the IMA. . . . .

HOOSIER SALON CARMEL GALLERY SHOW

Saturday night was the opening at the Hoosier Salon Carmel Gallery show.  It was a beautiful early fall evening, perfect temperature, great weather, beautiful sunset!

I was finally able to meet J. Anna Roberts and Bob Bratton - the two other watercolorists in the show - both delightful people.  We all got a chance to chat throughout the evening.

At times there were a lot of people through the gallery, at times not so many.  Several people took time to really view the paintings and I'm hopeful some of mine will be purchased during the run of the show.

My very best friend and her parents came to support me, and I'm sure more of my friends and acquaintances will see the show while it hangs.  It is running concurrently with the Watercolor Society of Indiana show (hanging at the Indianapolis Museum of Art) that opened today.  I didn't attend that - two trips to Indy in two days is one too many!  So . . .

I'm planning an "art day" to Indy with some friends that will include both shows and lunch at the IMA.

A heartfelt "Thank You" to Rich Anderson (Hoosier Salon Carmel Gallery Director) and Jim May (Hoosier Salon Executive Director) for bringing this evening together.  It's a beautiful show - if you like watercolors - and who doesn't!!!

Hop in your car one of these beautiful fall days and drive to Indy to see it - along with the WSI show at the IMA!

Here are a  few photos of the opening.
This gorgeous bouquet was sent to me by my art retreat ladies!  Rich referenced my lace paintings and
found this lace doily to put under it.  Looks like a future painting to me!

Another view of the bouquet with Anna Roberts on the right, Rich Anderson (Director of
the Hoosier Salon Carmel Gallery just to her right in the striped blazer)
(This and next 3 photos)
Standing by the street entrance, panning around the room . . .

You may recognize some of these paintings from my blog!

The long wall on the right of the doorway entrance - back portion . . .

. . . and front portion - with my flowers again!
My friend took my photo by some of my paintings - wearing a beautiful blue beaded bracelet
made for me by one of my friends - it complimented my top perfectly!
(I've decided I'm living in the wrong age - I shoulda/coulda been a Rubens model!!!)

I had to add this photo of my hair - styled for me by my Darling Daughter.
I got several compliments throughout the night!

HOOSIER SALON - CARMEL GALLERY

On October 10 "my" show will open at the Carmel Gallery - 22 Rangeline Road, Carmel, IN - from 5-9 p.m. - "Realism and Still Life".

I'm very excited about this invitational show.  The salon director invited all artists who had won an award at the 2014 Hoosier Salon Annual Show to be in a show during 2015.  I will be with Anna Roberts, TWSA, Robert Bratton and Patricia Weiss.

In order to decide what to take, I sat all of the eligible paintings around the living room and tagged them, then hauled them to my storage closet until it was time to load them into the car.

Below are a couple photos of my selection process.  Also got a "piece" of the dog in one - he was a great help, except when he got excited, jumped up, knocked over one painting, then jumped onto the ottoman - at least he didn't jump onto the back of the painting - he weights 101 pounds!!!

Being an artist entails a lot of things - including heavy hauling!  Thank goodness for HUSBANDS!!!  We loaded 16 into the car and drove them to Carmel on October 3 - in the rain, of course!  I'll look forward to seeing them hanging at the show.  I got to meet Anna as she and her  husband (also named Mike!) were hauling her paintings in - and we were able to help them carry in some of her paintings too.

If you are in the area, hope you get a chance to see the show while it hangs

OHIO WATERCOLOR SOCIETY OPENING

On September 26 I attended the OWS opening at Middletown Arts Center, Middletown, Ohio (about halfway between Dayton and Cincinnati - hence the name of the town???)  The show will run through October 24.  For more information click here:  MAC.

As always, it's a good show, lots of variety.  There is a lot of talent in Ohio and surrounding states - you can be a member as long as you live in a neighboring state and are a member of one of the Ohio watercolor societies.

Here are a few photos to give you the idea of some of the paintings.  Taken with my iPhone, didn't want to drag my camera around, so they are not the best, but you get the idea!

That's my contribution on the right - the large blue-ish one with the clock.

The opening itself was not as well attended as I anticipated, but the dinner made up for it!  Pleasant company, good table chatter, followed by the awards and signature presentations as well as a lifetime achievement award for one of the OWS founders - Paul Melia.  This is just a sample of his work.  (Hint:  look for the faces!)  Google him for more of his amazing images!

HOOSIER SALON OPENING

Wednesday evening, July 29, was wonderful for me!

It was The Hoosier Salon Preview and Awards night in Indianapolis.  For once it did not rain when I drove up and we didn't get lost getting there - but we did get lost on the way home - and so it goes!  Thank goodness for GPS!!!

For this event reservations are required - which allows patrons to view the artworks and buy before the general public.  This also allows artists and patrons to make connections.

But it's also kind of "sneaky" - they don't let you know if you are about to win an award, but they know if you will be present to accept, due to your reservation!

Anyway - once again, in about mid-pack, my name was flashed on the screen - I won an award for Outstanding Watermedia and . . . the painting sold!  To the same man who purchased last year's painting, but this time I got to meet him.

I met a few new people, and had the unexpected delight to see a woman who lives just a few miles from me - it was her first time entering and her painting was accepted.  I was excited for her, since last year was my first time entering and exhibiting.

Art openings are always fun anyway, but especially so when your painting is selected for an award.

So - you may be asking "what painting sold ?"  Just look up at my blog header - "Luscious" has gone to a new home!

VIEWPOINT 2014

Last Saturday my husband and I went to the ViewPoint show, sponsored by the Cincinnati Art Club.

The venue this year was Art Design Consultants - a beautiful venue at the far eastern edge of the City.

A view of a few of the art patrons.
I tried to get a couple photos of the venue itself - it began filling up shortly after we arrived, and I kept stopping to talk to people I knew, so I didn't get too many photos.

It always amazes me how many people I've come to know in the local "art world"!  Only problem is I usually don't get around the whole show because I'm always stopping and chatting.  I did walk around ADC completely, but I'm sure I still missed seeing a few of the paintings.

I also wore heels, not all that high, but high enough that after a while I could no longer feel my toes!  I was able to sit through the awards ceremony - and was happy to hear the names of several people I know called out!
One of the "rooms" set up around the outside edge of the facility.
Art Design Consultants places artwork in public and private venues, and I'm assuming that usually these walls in these "rooms" are set up with clients' artwork for viewing by possible buyers.  But right now these rooms are filled with ViewPoint artwork.

Another "room" - you can see one of the large windows.
Well, no award for me, but I thought it was cool that I was one of only 4 who had two works accepted into the show, and they hung mine together!  I think they kind of compliment each other and it's always interesting to see your work hung in a gallery setting - looks different than when it's hanging on the wall at home!
Here are my two paintings.

VIEWPOINT ACCEPTANCE

I just received an email that two of my paintings have been selected for the ViewPoint show.

The show will be open to the public September 10-25, Monday - Friday from 9-5 at Art Design Consultants, 310 Culvert Street, 5th Floor, Cincinnati, Ohio with the opening reception and awards on September 13 from 5-8,

I'll be curious to see the show this year, since this is a new and unique venue.  Click to find out more about Art Design Consultants.

HOOSIER SALON

Ever since I've been painting, I've heard of the Hoosier Salon.  Last year after viewing the show, I decided my work might finally be worthy, so I joined when we drove to Indy to see the show.

This year, my first year to enter, I entered 2 and was very happy to learn that one was accepted.

WOMAN'S ART CLUB AWARD

I received my Winsor & Newton Award from the Woman’s Art Club of Cincinnati in the mail.

The palette closed.

The palette open - paints are in a drawer that slides out.

It’s much heavier than it looks!  I will probably not use the palette, but will certainly use the paints.  I have used Daniel Smith paints for years, but will give these W&N colors a good try in an upcoming painting.

Colors included are transparent yellow, Winsor yellow, scarlet lake, alizarin crimson, Winsor green (blue shade), cobalt blue, Winsor blue (green shade) yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber, raw umber and lamp black.

As you know, I don’t use black, but will try to find a way to incorporate it into a painting, since it’s here!

Also included with my award was a short letter from the Club’s president.  In it, she told me:  “The judge was captivated by your perspective and amazing detail.”

It’s always nice to know the reasoning behind an award, but you don’t always have the opportunity to hear it, so I appreciated her note.

WOMAN'S ART CLUB SHOW

Once again I was fortunate enough to have a painting accepted into the Woman's Art Club exhibit - the 121st Annual!

My painting also won the Winsor & Newton award.  Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be at the opening since it was the last day of the Carol Carter workshop at GCWS.
My painting on the wall.  I didn't think it made a good presentation,
but maybe I'm just being hard on myself.
However, a friend and I went out to Mariemont to view the show and have lunch - a great day - art, food and friendship!

Here are some photos from that day:
I loved this necklace.  I have tried beading, but it's
just not my cup of tea!
This beauty is a poured painting by my friend, Carolyn Hibbard.
(Sorry about the reflection, couldn't get a better shot)
Took a photo of this one for my hubby - the title is
"Now, That's A Lot of Bull"!!!
