For the background I decided to do some “wallpaper”. A friend brought over some wallpaper samples and I reduced one of the patterns, then traced it onto vellum, then copied it onto 2 pieces of paper, then overlaid it on the painting, then traced it onto the painting, then miskited it, then applied 2-3 layers of yellow paint, then removed the miskit and then added the slight shadow behind the table edge and – voila!!!! This shows the miskit still applied.

Absolutely gorgeous! An look at the lace! Wow!
This looks finished to me Deb. It's lovely. I really like the addition of the wallpaper.
What surface did you use for this painting? Do you always varnish?
Thanks Christiane.
Nancy - surface is watercolor board and I will varnish when I'm positive it's finished. I like the look better with varnish than without.
Nicely done Deb. You do such good lace work. Love the reflections in the pot ad that blue just sings with its yellow/orange near complements.
Thanks Ann!
Deb, I can see this painting hanging in a bed and breakfast somewhere. So lovely.
The lace, the flowers, the pitcher, the reflections - there is so much to love about this painting and the wallpaper background is icing on the cake. Excellent!
Love this painting, Deb...really love it. I've been away from your blog for about 2 weeks and had no idea that you had been ill. So glad to know that you're doing so well. And, thanks for the info on your heart problems...we women just need to listen to our bodies don't we! Now...keep on painting.
Fantastic, Deb. You can do lace like no other. Love the reflections in the teapot, and the highlights, and how the wallpaper echos the rose color. Another winner!
Thanks Lisa - after more reflection (on my part!) I think there are a few corrections needed and as I feel better will attack them.
