Oh my Deb! This is just coming along beautifully. How can you go wrong with such a wonderful drawing to follow? Here is my question, what pencil do you use for your drawing? My problem is that no matter what I use for a more detailed drawing, the graphite gets smeared as I work on it, which would be disastrous for this much detail you have here.
After I finish a pencil drawing, I usually wash clear water over the sheet to "set" the graphite so it won't smear, but while doing a detailed drawing such as this it would already be smeared.

Susan - I just use mechanical pencils - .05 lead. I put down pieces of copy paper and "drape" the painting as I draw (and as I paint) so I don't smear. I will either wash off the graphite with a spray bottle before I begin painting, or use a kneaded eraser to lightly erase any extra graphite.
