CRISIS!

I couldn’t breathe, my heart was pounding, my eyes welling up with tears – I was in full blown panic mode.

“Why?” you ask.

I thought I was out of Daniel Smith Indanthrone Blue*.

I had:
Antwerp blue
Blue ochre
Cobalt blue
Cobalt teal blue
French ultramarine
Genuine azurite
Genuine lapis lazuli
Lunar blue
Manganese blue hue
Phthalo blue
Prussian blue
Smalt genuine – Daniel Smith and Winsor/Newton
Soldalite genuine
Ultramarine blue – Maimeri
Ultramarine turquoise

Even Payne’s gray!

“Check again, check again” my brain cried. So I did – and, lo and behold, there it was. How did I miss it the first time?

Oh well – once again my heart rate is slow and steady, I’m taking full breaths and able to see clearly again.

All’s right in my painting world!

* Those of you who know me know that I pretty much cannot paint unless I have Daniel Smith Indanthrone Blue and Quinacridone Gold on my palette! So you would understand how upset I truly was!

Thanks Cindi - hope you have a good pitching arm for that! Love the DS paints, don't you!

I know that feeling. When I started painting watercolor 21 years ago, my panic was to run out of Arches. Glad you found your Indanthrone. Happy painting.

Wow you just managed to avoid a disaster! Now I am waiting to see what you are going to do with your blues....

I laugh as I read this but it is because I understand that feeling so perfectly. Yes, I think DS paints are great.

Sandy - bet now that panic is running out of YUPO!
Arti - I use my indanthrone in almost every painting - it mixes great and makes lovely greens and beautiful blacks.
Vicki - it's funny we get attached to certain colors!
Rhonda - overlooked your post (sorry) - yep, disaster averted and I live to paint another day!

Can't believe someone could have so many different blues. I heard of Daniel Smith paints but you can't get them over here in England, but the colour names seem stunningly different and the results amazing.
Simply adored the peony post and all the WIP images. Wonderful idea - must have a go with this pouring/masking background before layering on the flower detail.

Good luck organizing the Viewpoint show.

I use indanthrone blue too. It does make good blacks and mixes for neat greens

Ha! Ha! Ha! lost then found again, I always have to wait weeks sometimes months before the found happens. But any excuse to place a DS paint order! Great work!

So tell me about Daniel Smith Indanthrone Blue. What's so cool about that blue? I do like Daniel Smith watercolors, by the way, but I have never used this particular blue.

Joan - so, you think I've got too many blues! (Then I won't show the rest of my stash of colors!) The DS paints are wonderful! They are mail order, so bet you could order them all the way from the UK but shipping might be an issue. (www.danielsmith.com) Try the miskit pour - it's fun - then please post your results. Thanks for commenting.
Gary - yep, they are great paints - do you use both the W/C and oil?
Ginny - it's just a beautiful dark blue, very clear (like a quinacridone) and therefore mixes well with so many colors. W/N also makes it - but pricier. Mix it with a quin. gold for great green and with burnt sienna or darker brown for a great black.
Anon. - sometimes my "found" never happens. Gotta love DS paints.

I'm a big fan of the DS quinacridone gold, too... an amazing color. I still miss the 'original' one they made 20 years ago (have a half tube locked away for only very special glazing monents)-- the 'green shade' is just not quite the same.

I'm always stocking up on paint, must have a back up tube (or 2) of all my favorites.

Your sunflowers are lovely!
