. . . yep – another peony!!!!
This one is once again based on the Steve Blackburn technique.
This one takes you pretty much step by step through the process.

To the left are my first pours with the miskit on.
Then I removed the miskit and did another couple thin pours.
The painting is a full sheet of Arches 300#, propped on the easel, so there is a bit of a curl in some of the photos. After the pours were complete, I began working into the darks, slowly going around the painting, glazing up in several layers.
Developing the darks.
Developing the darks a bit more.
At the end I was having trouble with the top right corner and one of my students told me “my teacher says to turn it”!!! So I did and I like it much better now! (And I was a bit embarrassed!) We really laughed at that one!
I can't decide if it's too "purple-y" - but it's a done deal - framed and sitting on the easel!
Peony, 22x30, Fluid Acrylic on Arches 300# CP

A full sheet, very impressive. I like the glow you captured in the center.
Thanks Vicki - I used to be afraid of large, now I rather like it - except when it comes time to frame!
Beautiful job, Deb. I love that you tackle this full on with a full-sized sheet, too. Love the pinks and purples and the warm center.
It's beautiful. Not too purple for me, anyway.
Nice painting, Deb!! Wonderful shapes and colors.
Thanks Rhonda and Chris - it was fun!
Hi Sandy - bet that purple will match your knee in a couple of days, I'm sure it will be a large bruise for a while! You'll be using that ramp for sure.
Great painting Deb..i like it very much.I am afraid of 'big'pieces...you managed it quite well!
I love that you showed the process. You didn't say so, but from the labels this is fluid acrylic? I have not worked with fluid acrylic before except as a glaze on my regular acrylic paintings. Do you think I could do this with watercolor as well? I need to know if you do a graphite drawing at any point. I am signed up for a Pouring Workship the end of August and I am trying to gather some large photos of flowers now for that project. It won't be full sheet though. This is so impressive and lovely!
wow!!! this is fantastic!!! thanks so much for sharing the whole process.. i am going to try this i am going to try this...lol deb wonderful painting so fresh!!! i love it!!
Hi Arti - Thanks!
Ginny - W/C will work of course! I got into F/A about 3 years ago and like them a lot, I use them just like W/C. There is a drawing on the paper, guess it doesn't show - I keep as light as it needs to be for glazing purposes. Since this was a light painting, it is not very dark - I make the drawing darker when I have more glazes. Have fun at the workshop and be sure to share your results!
Cindi - repeat after me - "I can do it, I can do it, it's not hard (if Deb can do it, so can I!!!") - now go and JUST DO IT!!!
Thanks for the comments and I do love to do the batiks. Your flowers are wonderful. I have pictures of a hot pink peony from my yard but I haven't done it yet. One day maybe!
