Well, definitely nothing gained!!!
At this point I'm ready to give up. The blue paint is lifing too much, the background and shadows are too blotchy and I'm not happy. I may try adding some fluid acrylics at this point, or I may just give up.
Looks like the painting won after all! Remember that score card? Now it's Painting 3 - Deb 2.
Win some, lose some. I lose.
But it's definitely worth another try.

Definitely worth another try or fluid acrylics - just my opinion, but I wouldn't make the bg so pink, perhaps a muted, softer pink/violet so the teapot and others are stars; right now that pink just screams PINK. Sorry it didn't work out - but every mistake is a learning experience - next time it will be Deb 5 - Painting 0!!

Don't give up Deb. It's too beautiful to let the painting win. The blotches in the background don't bother me at all. If you hadn't said anything, I would have thought that you did that effect on purpose.
Oh, don't give up, Deb. If you don't like it, try the fluid acrylics. That teapot is so gorgeous!
I agree with Nancy, Deb.....that's how most of my backgrounds come out anyway. I know it's not the quality you strive for but it is still a beautiful painting and a wonderful learning experience for you. I've taken paintings I wasn't so pleased with and cut them up into ACEO's. Perhaps doing that would make you feel better. :)

Thanks all - a friend has given me some suggestions for corrections to this piece.
As Martine said (in translation) - "nothing is ever lost" - so I will probably attempt to complete this one in the near future.
That lifting problem is so frustrating!
But I think this painting is working--in the thumbnail I noticed the composition is very strong; and, up close, the objects are beautifully rendered ... Love the green leaves against the pink cloth.
Laura, thanks for the comments - as you can see, I'm not happy - and as soon as I get time I'll either add FA or start over!
I think it may look good with more of a grape colored background but I'd do it in a sort of a wash because I really like that uneven watercolor effect ...
