SAYONARA UMBRELLA!

Well, the cow umbrella is no longer needed.

My husband went to a yet another cattle seminar (who knew – they are kind of like watercolor workshops for us!!!!!!!) and learned that the water for the cows must be kept cool. So, that involved the creation of an aluminum roof that will not only protect the water from the heat but is larger for the cows to go under during the heat of the day.

They seem content! But I kind of miss seeing that perky umbrella!

Well, I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much (okay, anything) about cows BUT I would think an aluminum roof over their water would cause the sun to heat the roof and then the water - no? Ah, well, goodbye pretty umbrella!

I LOVE learning about cows on your blog!!! :-) Who knew that cool water was so important. Hey, save that umbrella to paint under!!! I am finally getting caught up on reading all the blogging that went on while I was gone to CA. (In England they would say "whilst I was away") I was so involved in your frisket/pouring that I missed the brushes blog too. I have never heard of the first kind you talk about. I do have a cheap joe's brush you mention and like it and I do have a silver brush and like it. I am VERY fond of flats!!! My favorites are Sapphires (with the blue handles) by Robert Simmons...I always come back to them. They are mixture of natural and artificial hairs. Very bouncy. Last a long time. When they start to wear out...I put them in my acrylic brush box or use them for misket. AND I missed your birthday!! It was Sept 2? A belated Happy Birthday. I love when you give things away...a cute idea. I am giving away something at my art class on Wed. I always have them put their names into a box for something and say I'll do the drawing at 2:30 or 3:30 or about half an hour before we close up. Keeps them on their toes.

I am totally amazed that the umbrella survived. I would think that one cow with a serious itch would have brought it down.

I have to agree with RHCarpenter...I would add the danger of storms and a metal roof. However, I am sure the cows are happy :-)

Rhonda - the roof shades the water which keeps it cool. Also ends algae growth.
Ginny - stay tuned - there will be more cow info coming! I also use my old watercolor brushes for acrylic and casein. For miskit (didn't think about miskit brushes in my post!) I use cheap white nylon, they work great. Also thanks for the belated happy birthday!
Gail - you and me both! It survived one wind storm wherein it flew a little way but only suffered minor damage!
Gaylynn - don't think aluminum conducts electricity (and I'm not about to try to find out!). But if it doesn't, I'll be sure to invite you over for a sizzlin' fresh steak!
