ABSTRACTED LANDSCAPE - 1


I had a landscape class to teach and, since I'm not really a landscape painter, I admittedly was a bit worried.  It finally came to me that there was no need to paint a "real" landscape, but we could abstract it!

Above is my photo reference.

Below is how I defined each area.  You can see the clouds outlined as well as the trees, which were defined for each tree.  The original photo obviously didn't have much in the way of color or separation in the tree area.  I broke everything down into a simple shape - the clouds, the reflections, the land mass.

Well aren't you the smart one. I would never have thought of that. But you are right, everything is about shapes ... Anxious to see the progression on this one.
